REGISTRATION PROCESS
OBTAIN FORMS
Collect Expression of Interest and Nomination forms from INEC state or national office.
PARTY PRIMARY
Win your party's primary election to secure the party ticket, or apply as an independent candidate.
SUBMIT DOCUMENTS
Submit personal particulars, educational credentials, and a sworn affidavit of eligibility to INEC.
PAY FEES
Pay INEC filing fee (Expression of Interest + Nomination fee). See fee table below.
SCREENING
Attend INEC screening exercise. INEC reviews and approves or rejects your candidacy.
CAMPAIGN
After INEC approval, officially begin your campaign in line with the Electoral Act guidelines.
CANDIDACY FEES
Fees set by INEC for 2023 elections. 2027 fees not yet announced. Verify at inec.gov.ng before filing. inec.gov.ng
INDEPENDENT CANDIDACY
Nigeria allows independent candidacy under Section 65(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution.
You do not need a political party. You must obtain signatures from registered voters in your constituency.
INEC requirements for independents apply the same eligibility criteria as party candidates.
